Mercy Aigbe's ex-hubby, Lanre Gentry denies remarrying; says the actress is still part of his life

Mercy Aigbe's ex-husband, Lanre Gentry, says he has not yet remarried.

Gentry was in the news recently after he shared a photo of a lady on social media and many thought she was his new wife.

In an interview with Punch, Gentry dismissed the report. He said the lady whose photo he shared, is his young brother's wife.

''I don’t know why some Nigerians are quick to jump to conclusions when they see innocent and harmless posts online. Mercy Aigbe knows the lady I celebrated very well. This is not the first time that people have speculated that I’ve married another woman based on social media posts.
It seems a lot of people are just obsessed with marriage for me. I’m a Yoruba man and if I want to marry another wife, I would do that'' he said

Gentry also stated that Mercy is still part of him despite their separation.

” Me and Mercy are not fighting. If I want to see her, I would call her and if she needs anything, she also calls me.

We have a good rapport. God has the final say over our relationship and He knows how it would turn out in the future. I take care of my children. I can’t speak for other fathers but I carry out my responsibilities as a man. I still see Mercy as a part of me. It’s only a mentally unstable man that would leave a woman with children to go and fend for herself'' he said

I told you that this year, the world will behave like a child in convulsion. I told you at the beginning of the year, even though I am not a prophet, but a Pastor. You will come out of this problem safe and sound, but you must take the step of faith” he said

Chelsea to 'allow N'Golo Kante miss rest of the 2019-20 season' if fears over Coronavirus continue'

Premier League club, Chelsea are reportedly prepared to allow N'Golo Kante to miss the rest of the 2019-20 season if his fears over coronavirus persist.

The French midfielder, 29, who reported for the first day of training at the club's Cobham HQ on Tuesday failed to show up for Wednesday's training due to health concerns linked to the coronavirus.

On Thursday, Kante was present at the club's training ground on Thursday to undergo testing but is now remaining at home over concerns for his health over the ongoing pandemic.

Sources told Mail Online Football that the World Cup winner is nervous about returning to action, and Manager Frank Lampard is said to be entirely supportive of his key midfielder's fears and decision.

The insiders said that the club will put no pressure on the player to return until he is comfortable, but if the fears over coronavirus continue he'd be allowed to miss the rest of the 2019-20 season.

In March 2018, Kante collapsed in front of his team-mates in training before being given a clean bill of health. Before the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the former Leicester City star lost his older brother, Niama, to a heart attack after losing his father when he was 11 years old.

Watford captain, Troy Deeney has also refused to return to action because his young son has suffered with breathing difficulties. Some of his teammates are also expected to skip training after defender Adrian Mariappa tested positive for the virus.

His statement read in parts;

“Even without searching on Google the cases I have prosecuted, a simple telephone call as a journalist/writer to the spokesperson of the EFCC would have duly informed you that at no time was I ever engaged by the EFCC to prosecute Senator Godswill Akpabio and I never did.

“All the stories about that have been nothing but social media nonsense. As far as I can recollect, at no time was Senator Godswill Akpabio charged or arraigned by the EFCC in any court of law for any offence.

“So how come I was engaged to prosecute a non-existent charge?”

Lagos State reduces 2020 budget by 21%

The Lagos State government has started a downward review of the 2020 budget due to the adverse effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the economy.

The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos, Sam Egube, disclosed this on Thursday, May 21.

He said that the review, approved by the State Executive Council, is aimed at reducing the N1.168 trillion budget approved by the Lagos State House of Assembly to N920.5 billion.

Egube said the initial budget figure contained a capital expenditure of N711 billion and N457 billion recurrent budget, showing a strong preference of 60 per cent ratio for capital projects.

He revealed that the first quarter of 2020 recorded a budget performance of 56 per cent (N163.28 billion), which was higher than the 68 per cent (N148.38 billion) recorded for the same period in 2019.

The commissioner pointed out the negative effect of the fall in crude oil prices on statutory allocation expectations, the downward pressure on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), devaluation of the naira, reduced public and private investment and increased inflation rate as reasons for the overhaul of the projected figures of the 2020 budget.

He listed other factors to include the decline in demand for goods and services, as well as a reduction in manufacturing activities which he said indicated lower GDP growth and increased unemployment.

Egube explained that Lagos has adopted a holistic approach to the shocks induced by COVID-19, adding that the strategies included the maintenance of a strong pandemic response, restarting the economy, and reimagining the way the state has been operating.

According to him, the strong pandemic response will enable the state government to engender food security and safety net mechanisms, in addition to economic stimulus.

"To restart the economy, we are going to optimise the state’s budget for investments in jobs and priority sectors through job creation, economic stabilisation, and fiscal consolidation," Egube said.

He added, "In reimagining the state economy, we will prepare the state to operate and thrive within the new reality with digitisation, business environment reforms, improved economy and diversification of revenue sources."

The commissioner disclosed that the revised budget has a reduction of the total budget size by 21 per cent from N1,168.562 billion to N920.469 billion, with the financing deficit increasing slightly by 11 per cent from N97.533 billion to N108.005 billion.

He added that the recurrent expenditure (debt and non-debt) in the revised budget will decline by 10 per cent from N457.529 billion to N411.608 billion and 28 per cent reduction has been proposed for total capital expenditure from N711.033 billion to N508.861 billion.

"The revised total revenue represents a drop of 24 per cent in the previous projections from N1,107.029 billion to N812.46 billion," Egube said.

No one has the right to pardon his killers - Jamal Khashoggi's fiancée rejects his son's announcement of forgiving his killers

Hatice Cengiz, the Turkish fiancee of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has rejected his son's announcement of forgiving his father's killers.

Recall that Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, while seeking documents to get married to Hatice Cengiz in 2018. While Saudi officials claimed was a "rogue operation" and not sanctioned by the state, the account was however doubted globally.

After offering changing accounts of his disappearance, Saudi authorities eventually admitted he was killed in a botched operation by a team tasked with getting him to return to the country. In December 2019, a court sentenced five unnamed men to death for their roles in his killing after a secret trial in Riyadh.

However Salah Khashoggi, one of the sons of the late journalist said in a statement shared on Friday May 22, that his family has pardoned those who took his father's life.

The statement read;

"In this blessed night of the blessed month [of Ramadan] we remember God's saying: If a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah.

"Therefore we the sons of the Martyr Jamal Khashoggi announce pardoning those who killed our father, seeking reward God almighty."

Under Islamic law, death sentences in Saudi Arabia can be commuted if the victim's family pardons the perpetrator, but it is not clear whether that will happen in this case.

Khashoggi's fiancee countered the forgiveness offer in tweets she shared on Friday. She insisted that "nobody has the right to pardon the killers".

Hatice Cengiz tweeted;

"Jamal Khashoggi has become an international symbol bigger than any of us, admired and loved.

"His ambush and heinous murder does not have a statute of limitations and no one has the right to pardon his killers. I and others will not stop until we get #JusticeForJamal.

"The killers came from Saudi with premeditation to lure, ambush & kill him... We will not pardon the killers nor those who ordered the killing."

Yahya Assiri, the head of UK-based Saudi rights group ALQST also backed Cengiz's reaction.

He wrote;

"The murder of Jamal Khashoggi is not a family case, it is not a mistake in a normal context!.

"The authorities killed him because of his political work," Assiri said. "His case is political, so keep silent!

"We reject the use of Saudi authorities of some of Khashoggi's family members to whitewash the country's judiciary and dwarfing Khashoggi's case," the statement said, adding that Khashoggi's family or at least some members of it do not have their full freedom to say what they want.

"Secondly, and more importantly, the fact is that the issue does not concern Jamal Khashoggi's family only, but rather is an issue of public opinion as Khashoggi was a political writer who criticised the political system and was killed for that."

Last year, the Washington Post reported that Khashoggi's children had received homes and monthly payments as compensation for the killing of their father.

Trump threatens to permanently pull funding from WHO and 'reconsider' US membership

President Donald Trump on Monday May 18, threatened to permanently pull US funding from the World Health Organization over the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a four-page letter addressed to WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus, the US President criticized the stages of the body's response to the outbreak of the disease since December.

Trump insisted that the international health agency shares the responsibility for the large number of deaths in the crisis and further threatened to pull US funding permanently and also reconsider US membership in the organization, if it does not commit to “major substantive improvements” within 30 days.

The US President who disclosed that talks on reforming the WHO had already begun, had earlier called the UN health body a "puppet of China".

The letter read in parts;

"It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world. The only way forward for the World Health Organization is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China.

"My administration has already started discussions with you on how to reform the organization. But action is needed quickly. We do not have time to waste.

"My administration has already started discussions with you on how to reform the organization. But action is needed quickly. We do not have time to waste."

Trump also criticized the WHO for the "political gamesmanship" of praising China's strict domestic travel restrictions and being "inexplicably against my closing of the United States border."

He highlighted WHO's reaffirmation of "China's now-debunked claim that the Coronavirus could not be transmitted between humans."

This is coming after Trump temporarily halted funding to the organization last month. The US President who faces re-election this year and has repeatedly been criticized over the way he's been handling the Coronavirus pandemic, has consistently blamed China for trying to cover up the outbreak and also accused the WHO of failing to hold Beijing to account.

China has however denied the allegations numerous times, while also arguing that the country had released information "in an open, transparent, responsible and timely manner".

The president of China, Xi Jinping during an annual meeting of the World Health Assembly on Monday, said China would support the WHO conducting an investigation, while defending that his country has “acted with openness, transparency and responsibility.”

The US has more than 1.5 million of the world's 4.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, with more than 90,000 deaths.
